The Indiana University School of Medicine Cytogenetics Laboratory began clinical service in 1963. Dr. Gail Vance has directed the laboratory since 1998. During the past 48 years, the laboratory has combined quality clinical service, with the training of cytogeneticists. These cytogeneticists include innumerable technical staff, as well as graduate students and postdoctoral trainees (9 M.S., 24 PhD and 20 postdoctoral trainees). Today, many of these trainees direct research and clinical laboratories and many serve on committees of the American College of Medical Genetics and the College of American Pathologists setting standards and policies for future cytogenetics service. The lab is certified according to CAP (No. 16789-30) and CLIA (No. 15D0647198).
